Breaking Boundaries in Theology with Roger Haight SJ

An international conference is set to explore contemporary theological challenges in a critical conversation with the renowned Catholic theologian, Roger Haight SJ. The event, taking place from November 30 to December 2, is organized by Andreas Telser (Vienna, Austria), Sibylle Trawöger (Graz, Austria), Sebastian Pittl (Tübingen, Germany), and Annette Langner-Pitschmann (Frankfurt, Germany).

The conference provides an introduction to the essential elements of Roger Haight's extensive theological work, developed over five decades. Haight, an American Jesuit, was recently honored with the John Courtney Murray Award by the Catholic Theological Society of America (CTSA). The conference's focus is to reevaluate the boundaries of theology in the face of contemporary challenges related to the relevance of religious consciousness. Over three consecutive afternoons, Roger Haight will present lectures on "Foundational Issues," "Creation and Spirituality," and "Religious Pluralism & Liberating Christology." Each presentation will be followed by responses from scholars with diverse religious backgrounds, fostering enriching dialogue.

Registration for the event is open until November 24, 2023. To participate, please send an email to andrea.granitz[at]uni-graz.at. Students interested in specific discussions can indicate "student" in their registration. For further questions and additional information, contact andreas.telser[at]univie.ac.at. This conference offers the opportunity to explore and reevaluate theology in an ever-evolving world.
